30 percent of MLA funds to be spent for school development

Bengaluru: The State Government is planning to spend 30 percent of Legislator funds for development of Government Schools across the State.

Replying to a question by N.A. Haris of the Congress during the Assembly session here yesterday, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait said the Government has plans to establish 19,000 new schools and repair/add 31,000 classrooms at schools across the State.

Maintaining that the Government was finding it difficult to properly maintain the existing schools under the available funds, Sait expressed disappointment that the Centre too was not coming to the aid of State Government under the Rashtriya Shikshana Abhiyan.

Replying to another question, the Minister said there was 14,000 vacancies of teacher in the State and the Government was willing to fill the vacancies in stages.

Explaining the challenges before Government Schools, the Minister reiterated that the Government was seriously thinking of spending 30 percent of the Legislators Local Area Development Funds, for improving infrastructure of Government Schools.
