Bus transporting EVMs catches fire

April 19, 2019

Mysuru: A KSRTC bus transporting EVMs to a de-mustering centre in city after polling for Lok Sabha polls ended yesterday, caught fire causing tension for some time on Thursday evening.

The KSRTC bus was transporting EVMs from Booth Nos. 242 and 245 in Chamundeshwari Assembly segment of Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha Constituency to the de-mustering centre at Maharani’s College of Arts for women yesterday evening, when fire erupted from the bus all of a sudden on Gavimutt Road in Gowrishankaranagar.

The alert driver immediately stopped the bus and disconnected electric cable wires, from which the fire is said to have emanated reportedly due to a short circuit and thus stopped the fire from spreading further.

Soon, another KSRTC bus was summoned to the spot and the EVMs were transported safely to the de-mustering centre. No EVMs got damaged in the fire, which brought relief to poll officials, it is learnt.
