CESC Engineer trapped by ACB

He was caught while accepting bribe of Rs. 28,000 from electrical contractor

 The sleuths of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACP) have trapped an Assistant Engineer (AE) of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited while accepting bribe from an electrical  contractor yesterday.

The AE, who was caught by the ACB, has been identified as K.S. Venkatesh, attached to Hootagalli CESC Sub-Division in city.

It is reported that the electrical contractor had taken contract of upgrading the power supply from 15 HP to 45 HP for an industry and had put forth an application to CESC seeking permission in this regard. AE Venkatesh, who was handling the file of the electric contractor, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 30,000 to give permission which was later reduced to Rs. 28,000.

The contractor, after agreeing to pay the bribe, went to the Hootagalli CESC Sub-Division office yesterday and paid the bribe to the AE when ACB sleuths swooped down and caught the Engineer.

A case has been booked under Prevention of Corruption Act, said ACB SP B.T. Kavitha.

ACB to receive medical report of Traffic ASI, who swallowed currencies, tomorrow: The ACB will receive the medical report of the Assistant Sub-Inspector (Traffic) attached to K.R. Traffic Police Station, who had swallowed four Rs. 500 currency notes, tomorrow (Mar. 16).

ASI Ramesh had swallowed the currencies in a bid to destroy the evidence when the ACB Police caught him while accepting Rs. 2,000 (four Rs. 500 notes) as bribe from an auto driver to release the vehicle yesterday.

The ASI was taken to K.R. Hospital for medical check-up including scanning and the report is expected to reach the ACB tomorrow, according to sources.
