Children turn vendors at Chinnara Mela ‘Santhe’

Mysuru: Curtains came down on Chinnara Mela at Rangayana with children putting their entrepreneurial skills to test at the  ‘Santhe’ (flee market) held at its premises this morning.

The Rangayana authorities had set up about 100 stalls where children selling various delicacies prepared by their mothers, vegetables and some fried snacks. Like every year, this year also the ‘Santhe’ attracted a lot of visitors with people thronging the venue to buy the products kept on sale.

Among the products, coconuts was in great demand as it was being sold at Rs. 25 each compared to Rs. 30 in the market. This being the season of mangoes, children were seen selling them with chat masala.

For gastronomes, there was a wide spread of delicacies such as Jowar Rotti, Akki  Rotti, bread toast, Pani Puri, Masala Puri, puffed rice, Cadbury chocolates, potato chips, banana chips,fried ground nuts, banana, fruit salad, lollipops, Kodbale and Chakkuli among others. There was also pizza and burgers at the offing. As the mercury-level increased by noon, the demand for tender coconut and masala majjige  went up.

Children also sold green leaves, curry leaves, coriander, drumsticks, lemon, grain sprouts and other vegetables as well. There were also few games which the children tried their hands.  

To make the Santhe more interesting, junior artistes of Rangayana dressed themselves as a Budbudike man, a Saint, Dasaiah and were seen seeking alms from children at their respective stalls.

The children also danced to the beats of the desi drums at the venue.
