Congress stages protest against Union Government’s anti-farmer policies

June 18, 2017

Mysuru: Accusing the NDA Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of following anti-farmer policies, members of Mysuru District Farmers Congress Committee staged a demonstration at Gandhi Square in city yesterday demanding waving off farm loans in public sector Banks.

Strongly condemning the police firing on protesting farmers at Madhya Pradesh recently, the protesters sought announcement of loan waiver by the Union Government, appropriate compensation to the families of the deceased MP farmers and a lasting solution to the agrarian crisis.

They also sought the intervention of the President for sacking the MP Govt., which had killed innocent farmers.

Committee President H.R. Suresh Kumar, Congress leaders K. Marigowda, M. Satyanarayan, Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, Deepak Raj and others led the protest.

Dalits stage protest: Nearly 70 Dalits, under the joint banner of Karnataka Rajya Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Ambedkarite) and Karnataka Dalit Mahila Okkoota, staged a demonstration in front of the DC’s office here yesterday, demanding shelter to the shelterless and appropriate rehabilitation to all those who were freed from bonded labour in the district.

Alleging that the District Administration was apathetic to their plight, the protesters urged the Government to fulfil their seven point charter of demands which included sanction of burial ground for the community in all villages, civic amenities to Dalit colonies, shelter to all shelterness Dalit families and suitable compensation to Pourakarmika Ganesh, who was allegedly forced to get into an overflowing manhole atop Chamundi Hill among others.

Dalit leaders Ningaraj Malladi, K. Nanjappa, Diwakar, Lakshmamma and others led the protest.
