Dr. Ambedkar was a great humanist: Former HC Judge

Mysuru – Observing that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was a great humanist, former High Court Judge Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das expressed concern over the move to limit Dr. Ambedkar to one community.

He was speaking after inaugurating Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations organised by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre, Manasagangothri in association with University of Mysore SC/ST Special Cell at Rani Bahadur Auditorium on Hunsur Road, here this morning.

Pointing out that Dr. Ambedkar was the architect of the Indian Constitution, Justice Nagamohan Das said Dr. Ambedkar is one among the towering personalities of the world.

Explaining the efforts of Dr. Ambedkar for eradicating untouchability, inequality and such other social evils, he said Dr. Ambedkar should be credited for granting justice to the working class and women.

Noting that Apr. 14 being celebrated as  World Knowledge Day, which itself is a great tribute to Dr. Ambedkar, Justice Das said improper understanding of the Constitution is one of the reasons why the society is still haunted by social evils such as inequality, gender discrimination and others.

The event featured a special lecture on the topic ‘India’s Current Problems: Dr. Ambedkar’s Thoughts’.

Somashekar, SC/ST Special Cell Deputy Registrar Dr. S. Mahadevamurthy and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre Co-ordinator Dr. S. Narendra Kumar and others were present.
