Indira Canteen in every Ward of Bengaluru from Aug. 15

Bengaluru: Indira Canteen will start functioning in all the 198 Wards of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) from Aug. 15 which is aimed to provide food at affordable price.

This was disclosed by Chief Minister Siddharamaiah to press persons on Tuesday after holding a meeting with Officers of Departments of Finance and Urban Development  on the subject.

Siddharamaiah said that the meeting took a decision to entrust the responsibility of running the canteen to BBMP and added that a Committee had been constituted headed by Minister K.J. George to deicide on the logo of the canteen and design of the canteen building with Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner, Food Minister and Principal Secretary of Department of Urban Development as Members.

Elaborating further, the  CM said that Rs. 7.5 lakh would be spent to construct each canteen spanning 500 square feet and the construction work would be entrusted to Land Army. He further said that breakfast would cost Rs. 5 and  a meal Rs. 10 to be served in the afternoon and night. He added that the Officials would visit Amma Canteens in Tamil Nadu and study the functioning of them. He contended that there would be no compromise on quality despite the low price.

    Nice Initiative. Amma Canteen is very famous in Tamil Nadu. Hoping, Indira Canteen will also gain same popularity in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah is doing a great job for poor people who can buy food at a reasonable rate.
