Jyothi Social Welfare Centre celebrates Women’s Day

Jyothi Social Welfare Centre (JSWC), Mysuru, celebrated its 24th Women’s Day at Teresian College auditorium  here recently.

A prayer dance was performed to invoke the blessings of the Lord at the commencement of the programme, by the children of “Jeevodaya” who are under the care of JSWC run by the Ursuline Sisters of Somasca.

A power-point presentation was given on the activities and services rendered by the JSWC  such as empowerment of women, caring of the orphans and the needy.

On this day late Rev. Sr. Umbertina, the Foundress, was remembered and honoured by garlanding her portrait on the occasion of her 11th death anniversary.

The occasion was graced by Rev. Fr. Maria Xavier, Manjula Manasa, former Chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Women was the chief guest. The other dignitaries were U. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Office Operator, NABARD Finance, Bengaluru, S.M. Raju NABARD Finance District Officer, Mysuru, H. Manjunath, LIC Senior Branch Manager, Mysuru, H.N. Shridharmurthy, Senior Vice-President, Newspaper Association, Karnataka, were present.

Rev. Sr. Rosy, Indian Delegate, Ursuline Sisters of Somasca, Rev. Sr. Alphonsa, Director of JSWC, Rev. Sr. Mary, Superior of Jyothi Nilaya, Rev. Sr. Sajitha, Principal, Teresian College, were present.

The report of the year 2016-2017 was read by Rev. Sr. Shanthi, Co-ordinator of JSWC.

Diploma Certificates were distributed to the women who completed the ‘Tailoring course.’ Prizes were distributed to the winners of sports and various competitions that were conducted by JSWC.

A few women shared their experiences of how they profited by the various courses such as Beautician courses, basket and bag making, child care and housekeeping which was followed by a cultural programme.
