Karnatak Vocal Concerts at Alwar Kala Bhavan from tomorrow

Mysuru: Srikrishna Gana Sabha has organised the following Karnatak Vocal Music Concerts at Alwar Kala Bhavan of Srikrishna Temple in Gokulam 3rd Stage on June 17 and 18:

June 17 (6 pm): Vid. Vignesh Eswar will perform tomorrow accompanied by Vid. Nishant Chander on violin, Vid. Adhamya on mridanga and Vid. S. Manjunath on ghata. The programme is sponsored by Dr. C.G. Narasimhan and Family.

June 18 (6 pm): Kanchana  Sisters — Vidu. Sriranjani and Vidu. Shruthi Ranjani — accompanied by Vidu. Veena Suresh on violin, Vid. M.R. Manjunath on mridanga and Vid. N.J. Kiran Kumar on ghata. The concert is sponsored by Srikrishna Gana Sabha in association with Kannada and Culture Department, Bengaluru.

Profiles

Vid. Vignesh Eswar is one of the leading young musicians of Karnatak music. Hailing from Mumbai, Vignesh trained from a young age of 4 under the tutelage of Palakkad  T.S. Anantharama Bhagawathar.

He has numerous awards to his credit including the Best Vocalist Award 2015 by the Music Academy Madras, Spirit of Youth award instituted by The Music Academy Madras, The Times Thyagaraja Award, Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Yuva Sangeet Puraskar. He is also a recipient of the Government of India Scholarship for Karnatak music. He is a graded artiste of the All India Radio Chennai. Holding a Master’s degree in sound and music technology, he has always desired to contribute to the world of art through the amalgamation of music and technology. He is currently involved in the CompMusic project instituted by the prestigious European Research Council, developing computational methodologies for analysis, archival and retrieval of Indian art music.

Kanchana Sisters Vidu. Kanchana S. Shriranjani and Vid. Kanchana S. Shruthi Ranjani  are among the most sought after duet vocalists in the classical music sphere today. At a very tender age of 3 years, their father ‘Karnataka Kalashri’ Kanchana V. Subbarathnam, the renowned violinist of our country, initiated them into music. They began staging classical concerts at the age of 4. The sisters specialise in rendition of the “Avadhana Pallavi” which they learnt from their maternal uncle Dr. R.S. Nandakumar, Mysuru.

Besides being the toppers of their University in LLB (law) degree, both the sisters followed music as their passion and profession. Both earned 1st rank in ‘Vidwat’ degree in Karnatak Classical Vocal and Violin from the State Government of Karnataka and are “B High” graded artistes in AIR.

The duo have received many awards namely ‘Ananya Yuva Prathibha Puraskara’ from Ananya Bengaluru, gold medal from Padma Bhushan Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade. The duo also run the renowned ‘Kanchana Shree Lakshminarayana Music Academy,’ a non-profit Trust, dedicated to the propagation and promotion of Indian classical music.
