KSOU fake marks card racket: Hubballi Co-ordinator, Health Dept. official arrested

August 1, 2017

Mysuru: The Jayalakshmipuram Police have arrested two more persons in the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) fake marks card racket case. One is KSOU Co-ordinator in Hubballi Manjunath Kulkarni and the other is the Health Department official Mallanna, who is said to have got the job by giving fake marks card.

Inspector Ravindra arrested both of them on Saturday evening. On Sunday, they were produced before the Magistrate at his residence who remanded them to Police custody for four days. It may be recalled that the CCB Police had arrested eight persons including the kingpin Prajwal involved in the racket.

During interrogation by the Jayalakshmipuram Police it was revealed that Kulkarni had forged the signature of KSOU Registrar (Evaluation) to help the youth Mallanna to get fake marks card which helped him get a  job in Health Department.

Due to the derecognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2013-14, all activities including the degree, post graduate and  diploma course classes at the KSOU has come to a standstill. Only the marks cards of the University Outreach Programmes are reaching the students, it is learnt from the Police investigation.

The investigations are also shockingly revealing that the fake marks cards seal and signature of officials of KSOU have been used. These fake marks cards are quietly reaching the students all over the State.

Even as the State Higher Education Minister, KSOU Vice-Chancellor and Registrar are trying their best to get the recognition to the University, the fake marks card scandal at this juncture could prove to be one more headache for the beleaguered institution.
