Legislative Panel on Welfare of BCM holds meeting

July 5, 2017

Mysuru: The Legislative Committee on Welfare of Backward Classes and Minorities (BCM) held a review meeting regarding BCM hostels in the district at Zilla Panchayat auditorium here this morning.

The Committee, headed by J.R. Lobo, comprised Member Secretary Amba, Members P.M. Narendraswamy, M.D. Lakshminarayan, K. Abdul Jabbar, Suneel Subramani and Mankala Subba Vaidya.

Addressing the meeting, Lobo said that though the Government had doled out good schemes for welfare of students in BCM hostels, he regretted that the students had very badly performed in various examinations clearly indicating a lack lustre motivation by officers concerned. He pointed out that the Committee had already reviewed the performances in 17 districts and disclosed that Mysuru district was alarmingly poor in performance.

Lobo recalled that Mysuru was famous for good education and ironically slumped to lowest position with respect to education in BCM hostels. Squarely blaming the officers concerned, Lobo pointed out that the officers should have made good efforts to motivate and educate the hostel inmates instead of just sitting as silent spectators.

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep making a point during the meeting.

Lobo asked DC D. Randeep and ZP CEO Shivashankar to fix accountability for officers concerned to weigh their involvement and performance. He added that the Government would solve the problem of sites to construct the hostels soon.

SP Ravi D. Channannavar, MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, DRDA Project Director Rani, BCM District Officer Somashekar, DDPI H.R. Basappa and others attended the meeting.
