MCC rescues neglected cow

May 23, 2017

Mysuru: Following the news published in our sister publication ‘Mysooru Mithra’ the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) rescued the cow which was chained for over two years, near the Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry, this morning.

The officials said that they had served a show-cause notice to one Krishnappa, who claimed to be the cow’s owner for failing to look after the animal. They added that he was asked to pay Rs. 500 every day to the Animal Pound located on Sayyaji Rao Road (near Agrahara Circle) where the cow is now being treated.

They also expressed their concerns over Krishnappa coming to get the cow released as he feared of being prosecuted and could be imprisoned for 3 years and fined up to Rs. One lakh. The officials added that the cow would be shifted to Pinjarapole if owner failed to get the cow released.

MCC Animal Husbandry Assistant Director Dr. Suresh and Veterinarian Dr. Sumanth treated the cow at the Pound. It was administered with glucose, B-complex and other required medicines.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Dr. Suresh said that the cow was around 5-6 years old and added that it would be given food supplements as it had lost the strength to even chew the food.

It is said that Krishnappa, who runs a milk dairy, had neglected the cow as it was not yielding milk. He had also chained animal using three locks to protect it from being robbed.
