Provide gap between barricades on Sayyaji Rao Road

April 14, 2017

Sir,

Crossing the barricades or taking a U-turn have become a routine at several places on Sayyaji Rao Road between K.R. Circle and Ayurveda Hospital or K.R. Hospital Circle (see photo).

Slight opening of the barricades by pedestrians is leading to opening further, by vehicle users, wide enough to cross even three or four-wheelers. As no passers-by is closing the opened barricades, these are obstructing the free movement of traffic causing lot of inconvenience to other vehicles, especially city buses, which are going straight.

To stop this practice, it may be better to provide a gap at Bata showroom, with no U-turn facility, as allowed earlier, before construction of a subway there.  In the past vehicles coming from Dhanvantri Road or Ayurveda College Circle side were allowed to take a right turn, to go towards Old Bank Road or Dhanvantri Road, respectively. This may stop or reduce the unauthorised opening of the barricades and help free movement of traffic. Otherwise it is better these barricades should be sealed with tamper proof material so that public cannot open it wherever they want.

These blocks can be pushed aside during Dasara and relocated after Dasara. If cement blocks are the option, it should have at least 3-4 feet in height to avoid people jumping over it, as seen frequently at K.R. Circle. Concerned officials are requested to look into and take necessary steps in this regard.
