Rise in viral fever cases: DC visits KR and Cheluvamba hospitals, interacts with doctors

July 1, 2017

Mysuru: In the context of a quantum leap in vital  fever cases in city and  district, Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep visited KR and Cheluvamba hospitals this morning to assess the facilities and take stock of the situation.

Randeep inspected all the wards and laboratories of the hospitals and held a meeting of the doctors.

The doctors mentioned about the shortage of beds when there is a sudden surge of patients. Randeep suggested doctors to manage atleast 50 or so patients extra. He added that all private hospitals have been asked to furnish details of vacant beds to the  DHO on a daily basis.

The doctors pointed out that the Complete Blood Count (CBC) apparatus  was being overloaded with too many samples a day leaving it defunct.

They hence urged the DC to arrange for one more such equipment to manage the load.

Speaking to SOM later Randeep said 13 death cases of viral fever have been reported in the district and only one was suspected Dengue which has to be confirmed.

He asked the public not to panic and pay heed to rumours as Health Department had taken adequate steps to prevent the spread of any viral fever. He added that samples would be sent to Pune laboratory for cross-checking.

He said that 3292 blood samples were tested at KR Hospital in April and 3677 in June and the hospital was geared up to treat the patients.

DHO Dr. V. Basavaraj told SOM that the Rapid Action Team had been visiting houses and creating awareness on  water storage and sanitation. KR Hospital RMO Dr. M.S. Rajashekar, District Surgeon Dr. Pusupathi and others were present.
