Rs. 15 lakh  found missing from cash counter at Mandya Bank

April 24, 2017

Mandya: In what can be said as an act of negligence by the bank staff, Rs. 15 lakh cash kept inside a cash counter at Syndicate Bank in Mandya has gone missing.

Manjunath, a staffer at Syndicate Bank, Shivalli branch, had come to the bank’s main branch located at Ashokanagar first cross Mandya to draw cash needed for the day  at Shivalli branch.

After drawing Rs. 15 lakh, Manjunath counted the currency notes and went to the cashier again seeking higher denomination notes. But cashier Vidya directed Manjunath to meet the Manager. Manjunath then kept his cash bag inside the cash counter and went to meet the Manager.

After meeting the Manager, Manjunath returned to the cash counter only to find his cash bag missing. He then asked cashier Vidya about the bag, when she claimed that she was unaware about it. Later, Manjunath rushed back to the Manager to intimate the matter, who in turn   informed the Police.

The Mandya East Police, who rushed to the spot along with dog squad and finger print experts, locked the bank for a couple of hours to conduct investigation, not letting anyone inside the Bank to go out or others outside to enter.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Bank was functioning temporarily from the first floor of the building for the past two months as the ground floor was under renovation. The first floor of the building did not have CCTV cameras to record the movements, which has hampered investigation, it is learnt.
