National Sanskrit Conference JIGNASA-17

As part of the centenary celebrations of Maharani’s Science College, a two-day national conference on Sanskrit titled JIGNASA-17 focussing on Abhinavagupta’s contribution to Sanskrit literature commenced yesterday at Maharaja’s college Centenary Hall here.

The seminar is organised by the Department of Sanskrit, Maharani’s Science College in association with Amruthabharati and Mysore University Sanskrit Lecturers Forum.

Inaugurating the seminar, Vid. Dr. M.A. Lakshmithathachar, President, Samskruti Foundation, Mysuru, asked people to give equal importance to Sanskrit and  Information Technology so as to protect the Indian culture. He recalled that during earlier days, learning Sanskrit was limited to Brahmins but over the years the language was being studied by all communities.

He pointed out that Sanskrit was not a tough nut to crack and that myth should be removed from the minds of the students.

He further said that it has been a proven fact that learning Sanskrit improved memory but regretted that there were fewer takers for Sanskrit in institutions.

He lauded the organisers in holding a Sanskrit conference to motivate youth to learn Sanskrit.

College Principal Dr. A. Nagaraju presided. Poorna Prajna Samshodana Mandira President Dr. H.V. Nagaraj Rao and Convenor Dr. D. Sheela Kumari were among those present.
