Seshadri Iyer Road divider works irk public

March 16, 2017

The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has taken up the works to fix dividers on Seshadri Iyer Road from Dhanvanthri Road Junction to Irwin Road Junction and make the stretch a double road. As the road is already narrow, people feel that once the median work is completed, the width of the road will further reduce, leading to traffic jams.

The works are on in full swing with the MCC workers having already dug up the middle of the Seshadri Iyer Road. According to road-users in the area, the road median between these two busy Junctions was unscientific. This will cause frequent traffic jams as there is a constant rush due to a large number of patients to Cheluvamba Hospital and K.R. Hospital, they argue.

Due to the large influx of patients to the hospitals, there is also frequent movement of ambulances. Earlier, the ambulance drivers used to take this stretch from Seshadri Iyer Road to Irwin Road to avoid traffic jams. Now the dividers will result in further traffic snarls, road users complain.

MAYOR JUSTIFIES MOVE

When the issue and public complaints were brought to the attention of Mayor M.J. Ravi Kumar, he told Star of Mysore that making Seshadri Iyer Road from Dhanvanthri Road Junction to Irwin Road Junction a two-way with medians in the middle will not cause vehicles to pile up, rather it will pave way for smooth traffic as the road is 30 metres wide. “We have begun the works as we have got a recommendation from Traffic Police about the need of dividers,” he added.
