State may not face power crisis this summer

March 1, 2017

Although the State is reeling under the worst drought in over four decades, the State may not witness any power crisis this summer as 1,300 MW of power is added to the State’s power grid.

The 1,300 MW power includes 550MW generated from solar power systems and 800MW generated at Yermarus Thermal Power Station in Raichur.

Apart from this, the State will be getting 600 to 700MW of surplus power, which is generated from the Hydro Electric project at Linganamakki Dam as the Water Resources Department has directed clearance of water at the Dam by the end of April.

The power demand in the State is currently 10,200MW, which the Energy Department has met throughout last week. The additional power that will be added to the State’s grid, will meet the needs of power demand of the entire State during this summer.

With adequate power in hand, the Energy Department may not find it difficult to meet demands for uninterrupted power in summer, when power demand touches the highest point.

With abundant power in store, this is the first time that the State may witness power-cut-free summer, it is learnt.
