UMAA: Select Mysore Varsity VC on time

June 10, 2017

Mysuru: The University of Mysore Alumni Association (UMAA) has appealed to the Governor, Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister to select the Vice-Chancellor (VC) in a time-bound manner without finding reasons.

In a press release, the President of UMAA, K. Arkesh has said that from the time Prof. K.S. Rangappa demitted office on Jan. 10, 2017, the Vice-Chancellor ’s post is lying vacant. “The ad hoc arrangements made to hold temporary charge of the Vice-Chancellor by senior Professors has given rise to avoidable conflicts and maladministration. The students and the faculty are put to insurmountable problem with none to address them,” he said.

The Alumni Association is greatly concerned with the selection process, the falling moral and academic standards and the lobbying for the post of VC based on caste, creed, religion and political affiliations, said Arkesh.

UMAA also recommends that the willingness of the nominated members of the selection committee be obtained well in advance. The committee should be convened at least three months earlier to select the new Vice-Chancellor. The VC’s name should be announced at least a month before the present incumbent demits his office, said Arkesh.
