Woman farmer commits suicide

Periyapatna, Unable to repay the loans taken from a bank and private financiers, a woman farmer committed suicide by hanging self behind her house in M. Shetihalli village in the taluk on Tuesday morning.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Thayamma (60) who owned 1.15 acre land.

It is reported that Thayamma had procured a crop loan of Rs. 2 lakh from Cauvery Grameena Bank in the village and had also borrowed money from private financiers to grow tobacco in one acre plot.

Unable to repay the loans due to crop loss, Thayamma, who became depressed, committed suicide by hanging self behind her house.

Following the complaint lodged by her son Ravi, the Police, who registered a case, visited the spot and shifted the body to Periyapatna General Hospital where the post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over  to the relatives.
