Zebra Crossing: Do we really need it?

March 22, 2017

Sir,

I would like to bring it to the attention of the Traffic Police, the brazen disregard and violation of zebra crossing by vehicle-users. One such example we have seen time and again is at the Premier Studio junction.

The Traffic Police stand on the SJCE road just about 10 feet away from the signal where the KSRTC buses and sundry vehicles going towards Hunsur-Madikeri  blatantly violate the zebra crossing rule, but the cops are unmindful of it.

I request the Traffic Police who have shown great concern by fining helmet-less riders but unfortunately turn a blind eye towards this violation by vehicle-users, to kindly educate the offenders and ensure discipline is maintained.

We are sure this is the same situation at many signals. A sincere request to our Traffic personnel to start focusing on this small but important rule also.

A suggestion is to use the cameras placed in some of the important junctions to track and fine the wilful defaulters as a first step, if not already being done.

This looks an engineering marvel, a road divider built on Zebra crossing, how to cross either we need to claim on it and get down or bypass it using road ?
