A soothing rendition of old melodies

Mysuru:  Ninad Musical Trust had organised ‘Ilayaraja Sangeethotsava’ at Kalamandira here on Saturday evening featuring old melodies of Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi movies set to tune by the Music Maestro Ilayaraja.

The songs were rendered by Rajesh Krishnan, Sinchana Dikshit, Usha Kokila, Dr. Subhash, Sharanya, Neetu Subramanya, Devika, Prasanna, Dr. Brahmendra, Amulya, Kashinath, Nagavalli and others.

The programme began with Neetu Ninad rendering a devotional song. Sinchana Dikshit rendered ‘Yaarigagi Aata’ from ‘Bharjari Bete’, Usha Kokila sang ‘Hrudaya Rangoli’ from ‘Pallavi Anupallavi’, Subhash sang ‘Ye Zindagi’ from Hindi movie ‘Sadma’ and Neetu Subramanya rendered ‘Chinna Thayaval’ from the Tamil film ‘Dhalapathi’.

Rajesh Krishnan teaming with Sharanya and Amulya rendered songs from popular Kannada movies ‘Geeta’ and ‘Pallavi Anupallavi. The singers sang about 25 songs getting a good applause from the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Krishnan expressed happiness that the programme has been organised for a worthy cause. The Department of Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Chennappa, Music Trainer Dr. Suchetan Rangaswamy and others were present on the occasion.
