Dangerous triple riding!

Sir,

It was very unfortunate to read the news of two youth getting killed and another seriously injured in a road accident while triple riding without helmets (SOM dated May 11).

Quite recently, in a similar case of triple riding, three people died on the spot in Kollegal, when their bike was hit by a KSRTC bus. According to Section 128 (1), Motor Vehicle Act R/W Sec 177 MV Act, it is an offense and it attracts a fine, if caught.

Fine is secondary when the life itself is in question. Riders are not taking the issue of driving triple/quadruple or more, seriously even after seeing such news regularly in the newspapers. All this is done to save a few tens or hundreds of rupees.

It is very common to see triple riding even in the city centre. Triple riding is not limited to male alone. Even women riding triples (all women) is very commonly seen in the city. Not only youth, even elderly people are also going triples on two-wheelers.

As accidents will not occur informing you before hand to take precautions, people should avoid going triples/ quadruples or more on two-wheelers, as balancing the vehicle will become very difficult when it is overloaded.
