Mysuru: Even as there is a marriage of science and technology and medicine, the nearly one-hundred-year-old K.R. Hospital is going hi-tech as it has introduced e-Chikitsa.

On the directions of the Medical Education Department, the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), has implemented e-Hospital services at K.R. Hospital from June 23.

This service has also been implemented at Cheluvamba Hospital and PKTB Hospital on KRS Road which also come under MMC&RI. The physical work of writing in-patient and out-patient admissions has been dropped and all work is now online.

NIC software: In all the medical colleges’ teaching hospitals in the State, the online treatment processes have been implemented. For this, the National Informatic Centre (NIC) has produced separate software, where the treatment procedures have been uploaded.

The technology that is required to implement the services has been included in the NIC software which will be useful for all kinds of health services in the medical colleges, district and taluk level hospitals, community health centres and  maternity hospitals.

Pilot project: This is the first pilot project being implemented in the nearly hundred-year-old K.R. Hospital set up by the then Maharajas. Including the Out Patient Unit near the entrance (where the outpatient slips are distributed), four counters have been opened where each has a computer and printer.

In the first stage, the online process for outpatient and inpatient treatment has been set up and step by step it will encompass blood bank centre, pharmacy, laboratory and x-ray centres, said K.R. Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Srinivas.

Since the software has bar-codes, the record of any patient who undergoes treatment will be there and the information on the previous date of treatment, laboratory tests, and treatment offered to inpatients, his discharge dates are all available online in this e-Hospital service. Thus a doctor will know what treatment needs to be done, he said.

As the patients seed the Aadhaar card, one will know whether he will come under the BPL card limits and thus no one will be denied of treatments, he said.
