Engineering student commits suicide

Mysuru: An engineering student who attempted suicide and was admitted to a hospital, breathed her last early this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Samyami Gowda (21), a final year BE Computer Science student at GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women on KRS Road and a resident of BEML Layout in Srirampura here. She had written theory exams and was to complete the practical exams.

Samyami’s sister noticed her trying to hang herself in her room at about 6.30 pm yesterday. She informed the family members, who rushed Samyami to Apollo Hospital, where she breathed her last early this morning.

Kuvempunagar Inspector Vijaykumar, who has registered a case in this regard, shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary for post-mortem. The body would be handed over to the family members, later in the day. The reason for the extreme step is yet to be known.

    Family should have noticed her problems and they could have talked to her. A precious life lost at so young age.

    Will the parent fraternity wake up at least now and be sensitive to the emotional needs of their wards? All students should be given access to spirituality early in their lives which in turn help them view life from wide range of perspectives to avoid being vulnerable to such extreme steps.
