Eve-teasing incidents on the rise in Gokulam

August 10, 2017

Sir,

It is very unfortunate that a lot of women in Gokulam have stopped going on evening walks because of the alarming rise in the number of eve-teasing incidents. The area around Ex-MLA Ramdas’ house and near Lions Sevaniketan School are particularly unsafe due to lack  of street-lights.

Even girls as young as 11 years have been stalked by men on bikes. They have their helmets on and zoom past, so it’s hard to note their bike number and see their face.

It’s an appeal from the women in Gokulam to increase Police patrolling in the late evenings around the Lions School and to put up street-lights to prevent these kind of disgusting and  untoward incidents.

Gokulam is home to many yoga students from all over the world and incidents like these are a blot on the city’s image. Let’s be proactive and take preventive measures before the situation escalates into something more serious.

  1. Sir:

It is outrageous that young women cannot go for a walk. What with the chain snatching, it seems women, young or old, are not safe. These thugs don’t fear the police. Why can’t the menfolk of the locality come together and confront these thugs? I think it would help if CCTV cameras are installed in the area.
