Sir,
The news item “Two bike riders killed as they hit road barricades” (SOM dated Feb.10) is really sad and shocking. Two precious lives were lost for no fault of theirs and their family members have to undergo trauma life-long.
Barricades are installed with a good intention to reduce the speed — provided barricades are visible. Most of the barricades erected in Mysuru are sponsored by some well-wishers as part of their service activity which needs to be appreciated. But it is also their responsibility to ensure that what good work they are doing serve the purpose and does not back-fire like this incident.
The concerned authorities should get all the metal barricades fixed with red reflecting stickers on a war-footing.
Also they need to fix reflectors on the concrete dividers recently erected in all junctions which also can cause accident in the dimly lit junctions.
