Floods unabated in Nanjangud

August 12, 2018

Nanjangud:  With no respite from floods, most parts of the temple town of Nanjangud this morning continued to remain inundated with flood waters. The ever busy Mysuru-Nanjangud Highway (NH-766) was shut for vehicular traffic for the third day today, with water from the overflowing Kapila river submerging a big stretch of the road near Mallanamoole Mutt.

The famous Srikanteshwara Temple in the heart of the town, too is surrounded by 3ft deep flood waters, even as there is no immediate signs of flood water receding in the next 24 hours.

The Taluk Administration has set up four Ganji Kendras across the taluk as a relief measure for flood-affected people.

The CMC, which is assessing the damages caused to residences, properties etc., is all set to distribute relief cheques to the flood-affected families tomorrow.

Meanwhile, MP R. Dhruvanarayan and Varuna MLA Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah visited several flood-affected villages in the taluk to take stock of the situation.

Former MLA Kalale Keshavamurthy, Congress leaders S.C. Basavaraj, Akbar and others were present.

Inflow reduces at Kanini dam: The inflow to Kabini Dam in H.D. Kote taluk, which was on a steady increase over the past few days due to heavy rains in Kerala, came down today. The inflow was recorded at 50,000 cusecs, while the outflow was 60,000 cusecs, according to sources.
