Mysore/Mysuru: N. Lakshmana Char (93), the first Asian to Head the Nuclear Power Division of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at Vienna and a resident of Tapovan Solace Apartment in Sharadadevi Nagar, passed away in the wee hours of today at a private hospital in city.
Lakshmana Char had also served as the Group Director for Engineering Projects at the Reactor Research Centre (RRC) in Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, including the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) and Kalpakkam Reprocessing Plant. He was In-charge of the Commissioning and Operation of the FBTR.
He leaves behind his daughter Maya Iyengar, son Raghu L. Char and a host of relatives and friends. Last rites were performed at the foot of Chamundi Hill this afternoon.
