August 12, 2018

Mandya:  Four people were killed in three separate accidents in Mandya since last midnight. Among the dead are two youths who were dragged over 250 metres by a speeding cement lorry proceeding to Mysuru from Tamil Nadu on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway this morning. The bodies were reduced to mounds of flesh. Traffic on the highway was blocked for over two hours.

Twenty-three-year-old Pra-shanth, son of Madegowda, a resident of H. Malligere village and 19-year-old Pramod, son of Ramegowda and a resident of Holalu village are the victims. Both the youths were proceeding on their bike (KA-05-HG-5558) towards Kalenahalli to the sister’s house of Prashanth.

They started from Holalu at 6 am and reached Yeliyur Circle at around 6.30 am. As they were negotiating a turn near the Yeliyur Circle, a speeding cement truck (KA-01-AB-6888) from Tamil Nadu that was heading  towards Mysuru hit their bike from behind.

Due to the impact, the bike was dragged up to 250 metres. The bodies were reduced to mounds of flesh with blood and body parts scattered all over the road. The Police who arrived on the spot had to collect the body parts in plastic packets. As blood and flesh covered one side of the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway, the traffic on the busy stretch was blocked for over two hours. The traffic resumed at 8.30 am.

On learning about the accident, hundreds of villagers had come to the spot and the stretch witnessed heart-rending scenes as the relatives of the youths arrived. Seeing the dismembered bodies, the relatives were inconsolable. Truck driver Chandru alias Ningappa was caught by the public after he was trying to flee from the accident spot and thrashed him and handed him over to the Police.

Feels sad for two young lives lost in such a horrific way. May their souls rest in peace.

  2. Navaneeth CM says:

District Administration should disburse some amount to the deceased family. It will be one Fitting tribute to the deceased, who would be sole bread winners in many cases.District In charge Minister Puttaraju should have given the compensation instead of assurance

    • Sampath says:

The bike riders are not soilders who fought for our country to get money as tribute. First it has to be assessed if the bike riders were following all the rule like not talking on the mobile while riding, not on the wrong side of the traffic, reckless riding, riding without helmet, if all these were to have not been violated then the insurance company of the lorry would compensate. Why waste money of tax payers on common bike riders.

  3. Shivakunar says:

Very sad, may God give Thier family members strength to overcome this horrific try. May God be besides them.

  4. Arathi says:

Yes.compensation will be given, but will the youths come back?Administration need to do something about speeding vehicles ,these lorries driven by careless drivers are becoming killers on the road.

  5. Rao says:

This is not the first nor will be last death on our Roads.
When the most busiest road has no by pass for their village, they are exposed to the heavy vehicles plying on the Road.

  6. DARSHAN says:

Bengaluru to Mysuru via kanakapura -malvalli should get Widened with 4 lane , so commuters can be divided !!

  7. Sampath says:

It is gruesome accident ofcourse, but did anyone check if the bike riders were wearing helmets? Did anyone verify if the bike was being driven on the right direction as it is very common to see bike riders riding on the opposite direction, without helmets, very rash and irresponsible causing lot of problems to other road users. The DC announcing exgratia to deceased for a case where the biker is at fault only justifies and legalizes such irresponsible bike riders. Mob behavior adds to such idiocy and stupidity of bikers riding without helmet, wrong side riding and reckless / rash driving. Authorities should ensure such kind of irresponsible riders not be supported on humanitarian grounds.

    • Rao says:

The very first paragraph states “hit their bike from behind. ” So unlikely it was driven in opposite direction which is so common in that road.
The other questions u have raised are all questions which remained unanswered from decades.

  8. Sampath says:

While it is true reckless driving has to be checked and punished, has anyone validated if the bike riders were wearing helmet, not talking on mobile while riding, not on the wrong side of the road, etc.., blindly blaming other vehicles could be easy escape to coverup the gruesome mistakes bike riders commit. Talking over mobile while driving, helmetless, wrong side riding is a very common scene on B-M Road

  9. Mahesh says:

This is not the first accident on this road. People keep moving senselessly on this roads. Two wheelers, four wheelers all of them. Irony is police people are not interested to see if the riders/drivers violating the traffic rules Instead thay are busy in collecting fines. Why don’t we impose strict traffic rules like other countries. Fines simply don’t help. Either they have to cancel the licsence of reckless drivers or send them behind the bars. Too much freedom is always misused.
