Hunsur: Dejected over her lover allegedly deserting her, a 21-year-old girl has reportedly committed suicide by hanging self at her house in Kattemalalawadi village in the taluk on Tuesday.
The deceased girl is Arpitha, daughter of Basavaraju and Kanthamma couple of the village. She was pursuing her 2nd year BA course at the women’s college in Hunsur.
It is learnt that Arpitha and one Lokesh Gowda, a resident of Store Street were in love and Lokesh had reportedly promised to marry her.
In the meantime, Lokesh tried to distance himself from Arpitha about two months ago. Arpitha, who informed the matter to her parents, also knocked the doors of the Police Station. When the Police summoned Lokesh to the Police Station, he is said to have assured the Police that he would marry Arpitha in the month of January. But as Lokesh did not turn up last month, the dejected Arpitha committed suicide yesterday.
Arpitha’s grandfather Doddasiddaiah had passed away last week and the death ceremony was to be held today (Feb. 13). Her parents and other family members had gone to Hunsur to get necessary materials for the ceremony yesterday and Arpitha committed suicide when she was along at the house.
Following a complaint by Arpitha’s parents, Hunsur Rural Police have booked a case and are investigating.
