Government to rename Fair Price Shops as ‘Seva Sindhu Centres’

Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader is seen speaking to press persons at Jaladarashini Guest House in city yesterday as Food & Civil Supplies Deputy Director Dr. K. Rameshwarappa looks on.

Mysuru:  Stating that the Government was prepared to rename Fair Price Shops (FPS) as ‘Seva Sindhu Centres’ for facilitating easy delivery of various services initiated by the Government, Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader has said that the Government was willing to set up common service centres for the purpose.

Speaking to press persons at Jaladarashini Guest House here yesterday, Khader said that all the FPS will be allowed to offer over 20 services including PAN cards, electricity, water bill payments etc., thus enabling  the FPS owners to get additional income.

Referring to BPL cards, the Minister said that the rules are being simplified for applicants.

Pointing out that over 88,000 had applied for fresh BPL cards in Mysuru district, Khader said that over 70,000 cards have been distributed to genuine applicants while the rest of the applications were under verification.

Vigilance Committee: It has been proposed to form a 4-member Vigilance Committee in Gram Panchayat level to maintain transparency in distribution of ration cards (including APL and BPL) which will hear grievances on 7th of every month, he added.

No restriction: Under biometric  and online facility, there is no restriction for the ration card holders to take rations from any particular FPS. They can avail the facility anywhere in the State and this will benefit migrating workers. To facilitate this, more ration will be provided to all the FPS, the Minister said.
