Mysuru: A City Court has sentenced a staff of H.D. Kote Taluk Office to three-year jail term for receiving Rs. 4,000 bribe from a person for getting khata of land done. Shivanna, who was serving at H.D. Kote Taluk Office, is the one who has been sentenced.
A Court had directed the authorities to register one acre of land coming under Survey No.10, Moleyur village in Kandalike hobli of H.D. Kote taluk in the name of one Rathnamma, following which Rathnamma filed an application at the Taluk Office seeking khata.
Shivanna, who had demanded Rs.10,000 as bribe for the work, was paid Rs.4,000 as advance, after which B.N. Gururaj, a relative of Rathnamma, filed a complaint with the Lokayukta.
The Lokayukta Police, who conducted a probe, arrested Shivanna and filed a charge-sheet against him in the Court.
The City’s Third Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Sudheendranath, who heard the case, held Shivanna guilty of graft charges and sentenced him to a three-year jail term, besides imposing Rs.10,000 penalty on him.
Special Public Prosecutor Muthamma Kalianda Poonachha argued on behalf of the State.
