Sir,
The recent move by the KSRTC to discontinue with the practise of supplying drinking water bottles to passengers of AC buses is welcome. The move comes at a time when the entire nation has pledged for a plastic-free country and such a positive step by KSRTC towards environment is highly appreciated.
It is given to understand the innovative ‘BYOB-Bring Your Own Bottles’ campaign by KSRTC aims to encourage passengers to bring potable drinking water during travel while discarding plastic bottle usage and thus promote for the cause of a plastic-free environment. The campaign further helps bus passengers to only adopt smart and simple ways to lead a lifestyle by zero dependency on plastics.
While KSRTC is at the forefront of such a campaign to encourage plastic-free environment, it is also suggested to at least provide the facility of mini water dispensers inside AC buses for the benefit of passengers travelling overnight. This suggestion of mini water dispensers on-board needs to be considered by KSRTC in the best interest of passengers’ well being, good health, travel and comfort.
Hence it is suggested to KSRTC to install mini drinking water dispensing units on an experimental basis inside the AC buses. The move will highly benefit overnight bus passengers travelling on long AC bus routes like Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad etc. The suggestion may be considered by KSRTC to be introduced on an experimental basis and may be implemented based on necessary technical feasibility.
