Kalavaibhava-2017 beckons Dasara Festival Shoppers

JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru, will be hosting ‘Kalavaibhava-2017,’ a ten-day Handicrafts and Handlooms exhibition-cum-sale from Sept.1 to 10 at JSS Mysore Urban Haat in Hebbal Industrial Area, on the occasion of Dasara Festival and marriage functions. The expo, organised under the sponsorship of Department of Industries and Commerce and District Industries Centre, will be inaugurated by MLA Vasu tomorrow at 4 pm. The expo will be  open for visitors from 10 am to 9 pm daily.

Over the past couple of years, JSS Urban Haat has become quite popular not only amongst the handicraft manufacturers spread across India but also among the local buyers seeking quality handicraft. A wide range of exclusive handicraft items will be displayed under one roof at the craft bazaar which provides a platform for a direct market linkage between the artisans and the art-loving general public. The participating craftsperson can feel the real need and taste of the consumer and can orient the designs as per the market requirement.

More than 60 master craftpersons from all over the country will display their products at a rural ambience and demonstrate their finest crafts work that is set to capture many hearts. The craft bazaar is a unique opportunity for artistic, cultural and creative pursuit; it tells stories from the heart of rural India through its textiles, pottery and jewellery.

National and State award-winning craftsmen will present live demonstrations in art and craft-making and display Punjabi Phulkari/Patiala suits, Bhagalpur Tassar Silk sarees and duppatta, Bastar Iron Craft from Madhya Pradesh, Horn Products, Grass Mats and Curtains, Jaipur Kurthas and Raprons, Kanjivaram Silk sarees, Ilakal Kasuthi and Molakalmuru sarees, Jute bags,  Tassur silk sarees, Kantha stitch sarees, Banaras sarees and dress materials, Boutique sarees and dress, Bengali Cotton sarees, Kashmir Handlooms, Wood Carving and furniture from Saharanpur, Wood Inlay, Chicken Embroidery, Modern Arts Murals ceramic, Madhubani Painting, Rajasthan Miniature Paintings, Rajasthan Embroidery and footwear, Dry flowers, Leather items, Jute products, Vegetable print dress materials, Artificial and imitation jewellery, among other items.

MLA G.T. Devegowda will preside. Dr. N. Manjula, Director of Tourism, Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director (P&D), JSS Technical Education Division, B.R. Umakant, Joint Director (Projects), JSS Technical Education Division, G.Yamuna, Additional Director, Department of Industries and Commerce, Bengaluru,  H. Ramakrishnegowda, Joint Director, District Industries Centre and  A. Sureshkumar, Joint Director, Department of Handloom and Textile, Bengaluru, will be the chief guests. There is no entry and parking fee for visitors to the exhibition, according to a press release from M. Shivananja Swamy, Project Officer, JSS Mysore Urban Haat.
