Mysuru: As part of Dasara, a two-day National seminar has been organised at the Senate Bhavan in Manasagangothri here on Sept. 26 and 27. Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee will inaugurate the seminar on the theme ‘Constitution-Democracy-Equality: Karnataka, a role model’ at 10 am.
JNU, New Delhi, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gopal Guru will deliver the keynote address. Mysore University in-Charge VC Prof. Dayananda Mane will be the chief guest. District Minister Dr. H. C. Mahadevappa will preside.
In the plenary session at 11.45am, former Advocate-General Prof. Ravivarma Kumar will speak on ‘Social Justice, Egalitarian Society and Inclusiveness: Role of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, D. Devaraja Urs to Siddharamaiah.’ Former Director of Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Mysore University, Prof. V. K. Natraj will preside.
State Finance Commission Consultant Prof. T. R. Chandrashekara and activist Deepthi Sukumar from Chennai will talk on ‘Equality, Freedom and Development: Role and Contribution of Karnataka’ in the first session at 1.45 pm. Hampi Kannada University VC Prof. Mallika S. Ghanti will chair the session.
Writer Dr. Banjagere Jayaprakash (Bengaluru) and columnist D.Umapathi (New Delhi) will speak on ‘Governance, Policy, Media and Bureaucracy: A Role Model of Karnataka’ in the second session at 3.15 pm which will be chaired by Karnataka Power Corporation MD G. Kumar Naik.
On the second day at 10 am, writer Prof. Kancha Ilaiah (Hyderabad) will speak on ‘New Democratic Imaginaries, Identity Politics and Popular Discourses: Experiences of Karnataka’ while Bangalore North University VC Prof. T.D. Kemparaju will preside.
Session-3 will begin with a talk on ‘Secularism, Communal Harmony and Multiculturalism: Examples from Karnataka’ by Advocate Baanu Mushtaq (Hassan) and Progressive Thinker Prof. Rajendra Chenni (Shivamogga). Former MLC and Senior Advocate A.K. Subbaiah will preside.
Activists Hebbale Lingaraju (Bengaluru) and Savitri Munjumdar (Koppal) will speak on ‘Social Movements, Leadership, Civil Society and Nation Building: Contributions from Karnataka’ in the fourth Session at 1.45 pm. MLA K. S. Puttannaiah will preside.
Former Director of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar School of Economics (Bengaluru) Dr. R. S. Deshpande will deliver the valedictory address on Sept. 27 at 3.15 pm. Karnataka Sahitya Academy Chairman Prof. Aravinda Malagatti will preside.
Apart from the talks, a play on ‘Constituent Assembly Debate’ directed by H.Janardhan will be staged by Mysuru Bar Association team at 5 pm tomorrow while students of JSS Law College will hold a Mock Parliament on Sept. 27 at 4.30 pm.
