Mysore/Mysuru: Asserting that Libraries are often called as centres of awareness, Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K.M. Gayathri said that measures have been taken for digitalisation of Gram Panchayat (GP) Libraries.
She was speaking after distributing digital equipments to 22 GP Libraries in the district at a programme jointly organised by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Department and Shikshana Samsthe under ‘Rural Digi Development Programme’ at ZP Hall here on Monday.
Pointing out that 64 GP Libraries in the district have already been distributed digital equipment in 3 phases, Gayathri said, now 22 GP Libraries, including 5 in Nanjangud taluk, 6 in T. Narasipur, 5 in Mysuru taluk and 3 each in Periyapatna and Saragur taluks, have been distributed digital equipment in the 4th phase. Reiterating that Libraries are centres of knowledge and awareness, the ZP CEO highlighted the purpose of digitalisation. The infrastructure in GP Libraries will be improved with support from NGOs, she added.
Shikshana Samsthe District Manager Prasannakumar, in his address, said that measures have been taken for making Annur GP Library in H.D. Kote taluk, a complete Digital Literacy Centre.
Noting that a door-to-door survey is being conducted for complete Digital Literacy, he said that those households which are found to have less literacy will be visited and the occupants will be trained. This will be extended to all the 236 GPs in the district if the exercise is found successful, Prasannakumar added.
ZP Assistant Secretary V.P. Kuldeep, PDOs, Librarians and others were present.
