Mandya: A love episode has claimed the lives of three persons at Manchanahalli in Nagamangala taluk and the incident has come to light late. The deceased are Sowmya (name changed), a minor girl, her grandfather Chandranna (65) and the lover boy’s father Chennenahalli Somashekar (50).
Sowmya, a resident of Manchanahalli and 22-year-old Yashwanth of Honnenahalli were in love. As Sowmya’s parents came to know about the love affair, Sowmya, out of fear, reportedly consumed poison about a month ago. Unable to bear the pain after consuming poison, she had again attempted to commit suicide by hanging but was rescued by her parents. She was admitted to a nearby hospital and was later shifted to a private hospital in Bengaluru.
As Sowmya was not responding to the treatment, she was discharged from the hospital and her parents had admitted her to another private hospital in Bellur. Sowmya’s grandfather Chandranna rushed to the hospital from Ooty and shocked by her condition, collapsed and died of heart attack at the hospital. Later, even Sowmya too breathed her last a few days later.
Meanwhile, Sowmya’s parents filed a complaint at Bellur Police Station and the Police arrested Yashwanth. Yashwanth’s father Somashekar, who working as a driver in Mangaluru, committed suicide by hanging at his workplace as he could not bear the news of his son’s arrest. Yashwanth, who was in judicial custody, came out on interim bail to conduct the death ceremony rituals of his father and is signing the register at Bellur Police Station every day.
