Mysuru: A minor girl, who was forced into marriage against her wish, has been rescued by the officials of the Child Helpline and has been sent to the Girls Balamandira in city. A complaint has been lodged with Jayapura Police in this regard.
It is learnt that the girl, who is aged 17 years and a resident of Udbur in the taluk, was forced to marry a distant relative by her parents against her wish.
Meanwhile, a villager tipped off the officials of the Child Helpline about the marriage, who rushed to Udbur along with the officials of the Child Protection Committee and spoke to the girl and her parents during which the girl reportedly told the officials that she was forced by the family elders to marry.
Based on the girl’s statement, the Child Helpline officials lodged a complaint with Jayapura Police and have sent the minor girl to the Girls Balamandira in city.
As the girl’s Aadhaar Card states that the girl has completed 18 years of age, the Police said that they would visit the School and collect the girl’s birth certificate to ascertain the age for further action.
The Police have registered a case against the girl’s parents and other family members under Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
