Nanjangud: The famous ‘Dodda Jathra’ of Srikanteshwara Swamy will take place in the temple town of Nanjangud tomorrow (Mar.28).
The Rathotsava, the main part of the Jathra, will take place from 6.05 am to 6.20 am in the auspicious Meena Lagna.
During the Jathra, idols of the Lords Ganesha, Lord Srikanteshwara Swamy, Goddess Parvathi, Lord Subramanya and Lord Chandikeshwara placed in five specially-decorated chariots will be taken out in a grand procession in the main thoroughfares of the town.
The chariot carrying Srikanteshwara Swamy is a 95 ft. tall six-wheel chariot weighing 110 tonnes. The authorities have concretised about 400 mts. length of the road on which the chariots will pass through.
With more than a lakh of devotees expected to take part in the Jathra, the local administration has made elaborate arrangements that cater to the needs of devotees.
CC cameras have been installed at key locations across the town and watch towers have been erected at points where a large number of people will gather.
The Jathra, which formally began on Mar.21 with the commencement of rituals, will come to an end on Apr.1 with Nandi Vahanotsava in Srikanteshwara Swamy Temple.
The KSRTC is providing additional services to the temple town from different destinations such as Mysuru, Mandya, Bengaluru and Chamarajanagar.
