Shops asked to display Kannada name-boards

Mysuru: The District Kannada Jagruti Samithi has urged the authorities of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to ensure that all shops and commercial establishments in the city have name-boards in Kannada language. The Samithi Members, who visited the MCC on Thursday, held a review on implementation of Kannada in MCC’s administration and directed all commercial buildings and complexes located in MCC limits to install large Kannada name-boards in a month.

Speaking on the occasion, Samithi Member S.R. Sudarshan said that the officials should ensure that Kannada name-boards are displayed outstandingly in all shops and instructed the officials to issue trade licences only if shop owners displayed Kannada boards.

The members also visited various Departments in the MCC to inspect the documents. Taking strong exception to some MCC vehicles bearing only English names, he directed the authorities to ensure that all the MCC vehicles bear Kannada names.

Pulling up MCC Superintending Engineer Suresh Babu for sending a reply to Infosys in English, Sudarshan asked the officials not to receive any complaints written in English.

He also instructed the authorities to issue a notice to Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) Junior Engineer Kempegowda for writing file notes in English.

Samithi Members M.B. Vishwanath, Mylahalli Revanna, Y.D. Rajanna, Prabhamani, Kannada Pramoda, Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director H. Channappa and others were present.
