Thanks to fine bowling performance by the pace bowler Abhimanyu Mithun and good knocks from K.L. Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, Karnataka emerged victorious in the finals of Vijay Hazare Trophy defeating Tamil Nadu at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here yesterday.
In the rain rattled final, Tamil Nadu, which lost the toss in the morning, was folded out for 252 in 49.5 overs thanks to the fine performance from Karnataka medium pacer, Mithun, who scalped five wickets including a hat-trick.
In reply, Karnataka, which started well, lost Devdutt Padikal who fell cheaply after scoring 11 runs. However, in form batsmen Mayank Agarwal and K.L. Rahul batted well and remained not out at 69 and 52 respectively. Karnataka was cruising 146 for one in 23 overs when it started to rain and played had to be called off. With play possible, Karnataka was declared winner under the VJD method.
