Mysuru: Lashing out at the State Government for releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) leader and MLA K.S. Puttannaiah has said the KRRS will hold a State-wide protest tomorrow (July 3).
Speaking to press persons at Jaladarshini Guest House here yesterday, Puttannaiah urged the State Government to explain the reason behind the release of water to Tamil Nadu.
Pointing out that the Government should have first released water into irrigation canals instead of giving water to Tamil Nadu, Puttanaiah expressed apprehension that the State may be heading into third consecutive drought, with the monsoon playing truant.
Urging the Government to waive farm loans borrowed from nationalised and Co-operative banks, he said hundreds of farmers will take part in the July 3 State-wide stir.
Asking the Government not to close goshalas, Puttannaiah questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when farmer’ suicide is increasing across the country.
Opposing the new cattle slaughter rules of the centre, he said the Government should open shelters for aged cattle.
Lashing out at PM Modi for failing to understand the plight of the farming community, Puttannaiah he denounced the efforts to forcibly introduce cattle slaughter rules.
KRRS office-bearers Hosur Kumar, Hoskote Basavaraj, Marankaiah were present.
