Tableaux add sparkle

Mysuru: Yesterday’s Jumboo Savari was a treat to watch with Arjuna, the Howdah Elephant, carrying the 750-Kg Golden Howdah with the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari on the Raja Marga from Mysore Palace to Bannimantap Ground. However, adding glitter to the grand procession was the tableaux representing various districts, boards and corporations.

This year 40 tableaux participated in the procession representing rich tradition and culture of our State. They also created awareness about the pro-people programmes announced by the State Government.

‘Mirza’s Fort of Uttara Kannada, ‘Gomateshwara’ statute by Department of Kannada and Culture, ‘Development of Kodagu’, ‘Janapada Siri’ by Chamarajanagar, ‘Ranganathaswamy Temple’ by Chikkaballapur, ‘Madakari Nayaka Fort’ by Chitradurga, ‘Water Conservation’ by Dakshina Kannada, ‘Swacch Bharat’ by Davanagere, ‘Veerupaksha Temple’ by Hampi, ‘Bhootanatha Temple’ of Bagalkot, ‘Kamala Basadi’ of Belagavi, ‘Wadiyars’ of Mysuru, ‘Ramanujacharya Sahasramanothsava’ of Mandya, ‘Railway Coach Factory’ of Yadgir, ‘ Tableau showcasing Naadaprabhu Kempegowda and Salumarada Thimmakka’ of Ramanagara, ‘Akkamahadevi’ of Shivamogga were some of the important tableaux this year.

State Government announced the winners of the best tableaux.

2. History of Karnataka and Forest by Tourism Department

3. Cauvery Neeravari Nigama

This apart, five consolation prizes were also given to..

  • Yediyur Siddalingeshwara Temple (Tumakuru)

  • Forest Department

  • Siri (Kalaburagi)

  • Kamala Basadi (Belagavi)
