May 27, 2018

Tennis is a global sport and Mysuru has been producing talented tennis players from time to time who have gone on to represent the country in different levels. Mysore Tennis Club, Mysuru, is one of the pioneer tennis clubs in the country and its top products are P. Srinath, Raghuveer, Neeth Devaiah, Mohit Vijaykumar, who have gone on to reach great heights in the sport.

Continuing the tradition, city’s Nagaraj Revannasiddiah, a tennis player-cum-coach from the Mysore Tennis Club, has gone on to reach great heights, both as a player and coach. Nagaraj, an employee of Income-Tax Department, Mysuru, is ranked among the top three players in the 55plus men’s category in the country. He has been selected by AITA to represent India in the 2018 Senior World Team Tennis Championship 2018 to be held in Germany in August. He is our ‘Star This Week.’

A 12-member Indian team will compete in the ITF Seniors World Team Championship to be held at Ulm, Germany. The matches will be played on 42 red clay courts, spread over four clubs in Ulm and Neu-Ulm.

The seniors competition will be in the over 50, 55 and 60 age group. Pawan Jain, R. Nagaraj, Puneet Gupta and Col. MM Nehru will represent India in the 55plus men’s category in the Championship.

Presently ranked No.2 in the country, Nagaraj has earlier represented India in the World Championships in USA and Finland in 2014 and 2016 respectively. He is also ranked in the World ITF Senior 55 Plus men’s category and has won many All India Men’s Singles titles in his age category.

Nagaraj, 55, is married to Vimala and has a son and a daughter. He is a true example of a sports person to achieve laurels with age as no barrier. Hope he goes on to reach great heights in this global sport in the days to come.
