Former Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Sheik Ali
Mysuru: “The Salt Satyagraha launched by Mahatma Gandhi created a revolution in the country. Gandhi who eschewed violence and chose the path of non-violence did it because he had the vision of a secular country,” said former Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore and Goa Universities Prof. B. Sheik Ali.
He was speaking after releasing four books including his own titled ‘Ground Work of Karnataka History,’ Prof. B. Parameshwar’s ‘Karnataka Hitihasa Parichaya’ and ‘Bharatada Swatantra Chaluvali’ and Mahesh Agasarahalli’s ‘Kannada Sahitya mattu Vyakarana’ at the Vidya Bhavan near Ramaswamy Circle in city here on Mar.31.
“The then Congress stalwarts like Jawaharlal Nehru and Maulana Azad’s administrative skills were excellent. If one delves into history, giant political thinkers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle come to mind. The sacrifice and efforts of many freedom fighters are there in India’s struggle for freedom,” he said.
Retired History Professor B. Parameshwar said that by reflecting on the past the true essence of life is revealed. Hence, to see that everyone understands history easily in the present day competitive world, the history of India’s freedom struggle has been included in his book, he added.
Retired Principal Dr. A. Somashekar presided over the event. Dr. Sheik Ali’s son Dr. Zakir Hussain, retired Geography Professor Dr. Ranganath, Mahesh Agasarahalli, retired engineer Bapu Satyanarayan, Harish and others were present.
