Mysuru: Nearly 100 employees of Vinyas Innovative Technologies in Koorgalli Industrial area staged a night-long protest demanding withdrawal of illegal transfers of the staff to the Tirupati plant.
Speaking to SOM over phone this morning, Joint Secretary of the Union Girish said that the company has transferred some of the employees including women to Tirupati. In spite of repeated requests not to transfer them, the management has turned a deaf year to their plea.
The management was also refusing to increase the salaries of the staff though many representations were made in this regard, he said.
Hence, they were forced to resort to the agitation and sat in night-long dharna and the protest was continuing even today. They had even approached the Labour Department officials in Bengaluru and they had promised to look into the matter and visit the unit yesterday. However, none of the officials turned up, he said and added that they would continue with the agitation till their demands are met.
Meanwhile, one of the top managements of the company, speaking to SOM on condition of anonymity, said that 94 employees including women out of 300 working in the unit had been transferred to Tirupati.
They staged a night long dharna but most of the employees who were involved in the strike were back to work this morning while only a few sat in protest.
About the women employees being transferred, he said that world over women were seeking equal rights and it was very important for the company to have experienced women trainers train the staff in the Tirupati plant where a mobile phone manufacturing unit has been set up. Hence, some of them were transferred. He also alleged that one of the women union leaders backed up by CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) was trying to instigate the workers.
Regarding the demand for salary hike, he said that the employees were being paid more than the industry norms and besides with just SSLC qualification they could not expect hike in salaries very fast.
