Wipro unit in city shuts down; Employees stage dharna

July 12, 2017

Mysuru: The sinking scenario in the country is that not only new jobs are created but in the IT industry techies are being mercilessly sacked. In the light of this another shocking incident in our city, where the Wipro Lighting Unit has pulled down shutters rendering the employees jobless is indeed a sad occasion.

The employees condemning the sudden closure resorted to a strike, here yesterday. They gathered in front of the unit and charged that Wipro Lighting Unit that produces thousands of bulbs and has earned a good name in the country for its quality products, had suddenly closed the unit.

The employees alleging that the unit had been closed without assigning any reason raised slogans against the company. They have urged that the company should not be closed at any cost.

Employees Union President Somaraju Urs, Secretary Devaraj, Treasurer S.N. Deepak and others participated in the protest.

First of all it is not a government job where people will be paid for their useless existance! Secondly it is a market driven economy and most likely they must have paid some severance or package! Wipro is a very professional company! If this misery was invited by the employees due to their affiliation with the communist Labor unions like CPI or CPM, then, they should hold them accountable for their job loss!

I do not know about the internal issues. If the plant is down due to losses, I think the management needs to gear up deals with the government in supplying electrical bulbs etc to the nation and turn around the business. There is always rooms for growth. We need to work as a nation.
