Mysuru: Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysuru, a constituent unit of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), will be a part of the National Achievement Survey (NAS) which will be conducted in September 2017 for Classes 3, 5 and 8 based on ‘Learning Outcomes’ developed by NCERT for the first time, said RIE Principal Y. Sreekanth, here on Friday.
Addressing the mediapersons, he said the NAS will be conducted at the district-level to provide a decentralised picture of the quality of school education.
Stating that a three-day workshop would be conducted by RIE from July 10 to 12 on ‘Learning Outcomes,’ Sreekanth said that the institute would support in developing curricular competencies across the subject areas as part of the implementation of Learning Outcomes.
“Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) has been mis-conceptualised by making it a part of the Summative Assessment. There has been a large increase in the failures/dropout rate after Class 8, which needs to be checked through appropriate interventions. Unlike CBSE, States have decentralised monitoring units such as DIETs, BRCs and CRCs to strengthen the capacities of teachers and teacher educators to implement CCE at school-level effectively and facilitate monitoring through decentralisation,” he added.
Sreekanth also said that RlE will focus on bringing together all pre-service and in-service teacher training institutions so as to converge theory and practice and have regular interaction for enriching the curriculum and its implementation.
Former Rangayana Director H. Janardhan and Extension Education Head Kalpana Venugopal were present at the press meet.
