Mysuru: Marking Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, a Youth Empowerment Centre was inaugurated at Maharani’s Arts College for women, in the city this morning.
The Youth Empowerment Centre (Yuva Sabaleekarana Kendra) set up in the college, which is considered as the lead college of the district, will guide the students on their career and higher education, besides having other facilities for the students to acquire knowledge and hone their skills.
The Centre will have two faculty members of the college as counsellors, namely Dr. Hemachandra and Prof. Suma. The Centre will be headed by Mysuru Deputy Commissioner, with the College Principal as the Convenor.
Speaking after the inauguration of the Centre, MLC Marithibbegowda said that Swami Vivekananda must be credited for giving the most powerful spiritual message to the world. Maintaining that it was Swami Vivekananda who introduced India’s cultural and spiritual richness to the world, he said that no Saint had interpreted God and religion like Vivekananda, who said that selfless service to the society was the best thing that a human could do to please God.
Noting that Vivekananda Jayanti is also celebrated at the United Nations (UN) which is a rare honour, Marithibbegowda said that even Mahatma Gandhi was very much inspired by the young Saint’s preachings. As Ramakrishna Paramahamsa’s disciple, Vivekananda spread the fragrance of the country’s cultural richness to the world, the MLC said and added that Poet Laureate Kuvempu too had often said that Vivekananda’s teachings played a vital role in all his (Kuvempu) achievements in life.
On the occasion, free laptops were symbolically distributed to 12 first year degree students of Maharani’s College, as part of a Government Scheme which aims at distribution of free laptops to students of Government First Grade Colleges in the State.
